Aggresso! best of/summer-playlists 2011

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Ive been really busy since our final shows but here it is, the final Aggresso!-playlist ever. As always, we’ve summarized the last 6 months in records, concerts, interviews and whatnot in 3 summer-specials. Scroll below for the comments-section where we elaborate on why these releases were picked out.

Further below you will also find my final words after doing this show for 10 years. It’s been a ride and I’m very, very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given. But as I’ve said and written before I want to quit while I’m ahead. Aggresso!’s my baby and Ive seen it grow to almost perfection the last years. I’m satisfied, I’m done and it’s time to explore new opportunities.

Maiken has started a new program called “Gorilla” together with Rolf from Fuzz, Kaspar from Aggresso! and Marius from the band Roadkill. I’m looking forward to that and hopefully I can contribute a little. I’m hoping I can do some DJ’ing with Maiken here in Bergen but it doesnt look bright. I’ve allready started writing for the excellent Norwegian punk & hardcore community-site 800grader.com where I will review records, concerts, fanzines etc. and have a monthly (or so) column. So you can still send me your records but I cant play them on the radio anymore. If you want me to consider them for reviewing/recomendation, drop me a line and I’ll give you my personal info. Everything else will go directly to the swell people in Gorilla

But Aggresso!s not entirely over yet. Im working on digitalizing all the old cassette-recordings of our shows from the first 3 years to be put online. So basically every recorded show from 2001 – 2011 will be put up on a srib.no-site. I wont bother you with e-mails as this thing progresses so just check out our MySpace or Facebook for the details in the near future.

The re-runs of the summer-specials have allready been posted on our MySpace and can also be listened to at these links (if you dont like Murdoch or want the show in one piece):

           ________________

The Assasinators – I Disse Mørke Tider 7″ (Alerta Antifascista/mp3)

The now sadly defunct melodic anarcho-outfit with a base in the even more sadly torn down Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen, Denmark released their swan song couple of months before disbanding. Their Norwegian bass player sent me the songs as mp3-files so I cant really comment on the cover and lyrics, which I am sure are awesome as always, but given the song-titles (Unskyld Vi Flygter/Sorry for Seeking Refuge and Med Næb Og Klør/With Beak and Claws), the quartet stands firmly by their ideals and politics from their previous releases. Of course they do. I always liked the singles better than the albums and “I Disse Mørke Tider” (“In These Dark Times”) is no exception. 4 perfect songs just as you know you like ‘em. My son doesnt think they sound too much like Iron Maiden though. (BM)

Featured track: Med Næb Og Klør

The Black Pacific – The Black Pacific (SideOneDummy/Tuba)

The Black Pacific showed that Jim Lindberg still has what it takes to make good music. Fans of Pennywise should be happy with this record, that takes the good old formula and adds some elements of metal to it with sucsess. (MA)

Featured track: The System

Blood Command – Hand Us the Alpha Male 10″ (Fysisk Format)

Finally, their last 10″ in the triology-series. 3 dark and heavy tracks mixed with 2 more traditional BC hit compositions and a cover of two of the members’ other band, Jeroan Drives “Schizophrenic Summer”. Punk stamp approval. (BM)

Featured track: Hand Us the Alpha Male

Dropkick Murphy’s – Going Out In Style (Born & Bred/Tuba)

Hell yeah! Is this a perfect DkM-record? I think it is. I knew it was killer just from listening to the first few songs. I didnt like “The Warriors Code” too much but I friggin loved their previous effort “The Meanest of Times” which took paddypunk to a whole new level and the band showed brand new songwriting skills topped off with Al Barrs highly original vocals. This time around, they’re back to more traditional song-structures and melodies but its far from boring or repetetive. The production is absolutely superb and the band sounds more vital than ever. I had my doubts before this was released but to site an old cliché; if you like the band you will love this album. Maiken agrees, so there! (BM)

Featured track: Memorial Day

Feilfødt – Brutal Kustus (Fysisk Format)

Also celebrating 10 years existence, Feilfødt combines hardcore, punk and metal with a twist and smart and witty Norwegian lyrics. Maiken was supposed to write on this but I forgot to give her the heads up. My bad (BM)

Featured track: 10 År

The Hentchmen – The Hentchmen (Dirty Water)

One of many good garagerock records to be sent to us from Dirty Water this year. The Hentchmen plays good tight garagerock with a modern feel, and a deep and good twangin’ guitar. A record that gets better with each listening (MA)

Featured track: Accusatory

Hollywood Sinners – Disastro Garantito (Dirty Water)

Ahh, Hollywood Sinners! They played in Bergen in February and proved to be every bit as good as I’d hoped while listening to their sophomore album, We won’t change our style, so when we got their new album on Dirty Water just weeks later it was like Christmas time. The record did not disappoint. Though not as raw and ferocious as We wont…, it was a very complete record, and with several tracks sung in their native Spanish, which I feel fits their music even better than English. A great listen, which has become a new favourite. (MA)

Featured track: You Have to Ask

Les Savy Fav – Root For Ruin (Frenchkiss/Tuba)

This is the NYC indierock bands 5th studioalbum since forming in 1995 and sounds like nothing Ive ever heard before. Perhaps last years Sounds Like Violences “Devil on Nobel Street”-album can be reminiscent and give a couple of nods to where this records at but you still need to check it out. Post-whatever, brilliant music! (BM)

Featured track: Appetites

Los Peyotes – Garaje o Muerto (Dirty Water)

Along with my new love of spanish-speaking garagerock that started with Los Explosivos and Hollywood Sinners came yet ANOTHER great DW release, Argentinian Los Peyotes. They play a more old-school directed garage, using the organ as well as guitars. It’s raw and wild and they sing primarily in Spanish, which I think makes the almost feral sound of the vocals even cooler. (MA)

Featured track: Garaje o Muerte

Mixtapes – Castle Songs 7″ (Death to False Hope/download)

Mixtapes from Cincinatti, OH, USA is one of my new favoruite bands for more than one reason. Firstly, they put a sparkling twist on the old pop-punk genre. Secondly, their lyrics are witty, naïve and smart at the same time. Thirdly, they are one of the bands that have the music-industry by the balls and by that I mean that they are smart by releasing vinyl and giving songs away for free download in the process. Makes me want to support them. All the songs they’ve dripped in 2011 rocks but this one from “Castle Songs” stands out the most. Check ‘em out! (BM)

Featured track: Hey Baby!

Obnoxious Remains – Demo (demo)

When the band called me and asked if they could send me some of their recorded tracks and let them know my opinion I wasnt hard to persuade. Since the reformation in 2009, the quantet have attracted a serious amount of followers through better and better live-performances. This demo doesnt do them 100% justice but you sure as hell cant help but appreciate the energy and intensity of the recording. Can’t wait for more! (BM)

Featured track: Nei

The Routes – Alligator (Dirty Water)

If I had to pick just one album as my favourite from spring ’11, it would be this one….Along with Sugar Louise’s album. The Routes are from Japan, although you’d never guess from listening to their record. This is oldschool garage at it’s best, with great raw guitarsound, harmonized vocals, great riffs and catchy solos. This album is fucking amazing. Honestly. If you have any inclinination towards garagerock at all, you should listen to this album. As well as having great songs the production is also perfect, creating great sound while still having the unpolished feel of genuine garage. (MA)

Featured track: Be My Jane

South City Locos – Punkrock’s Dead (At The Poor House)

With all the garagerock that’s taking over my collection lately it’s good to be reminded of the no-nonsense pure punk that originally got me into music at all.. And with their album Punkrock’s Dead South City Locos proved just the opposite. They have a very American sound, even though they’re Swedish, and remind me a bit of early Unseen and Casualties (though without Jorge’s super annoying vocals). A fun and catchy record for re-awakening my love of 90s streetpunk. (MA)

Featured track: Punkrock’s Dead

Sugar Louise – Everythings Better With Sugar (Naked Hollywood)

WAAAOO!! Everythings better with Sugar Louise, as we hoped and almost expected after hearing their promo single. A clear tribute to Chixdiggit’s Pink Razors, this is an absolutely AMAZING poppunk record, with not one single mediocre track in my opinion. I’ve already managed to make dents in the cd because I’ve played it so much (Cd’s = the new old school). From the exellent opening track Pair-a-dice this album plows away with fast and fun songs that makes you sing along before you even know it. I actually can’t belive this band is even from Norway. (MA)

Both Maiken and me were pretty psyched about this record when we got it. It’s as close to a perfect pop-punk album as you’ll ever get. The band demonstrates excellent song writing-skills, a nose for good production and general musical intelligence. Every song is catchy as hell and makes me wanna sing along, something I got to do when we booked them to the last radiocafé Aggresso! hosted in June. The band proved to be all we hoped for live and semented their reputation in the basement of the Garage rock club. Come back! (BM)

Featured track: Take My Life Away

Troublemakers – 30 (Heptown)

How fitting that one of the bands that have followed Aggresso! almost since the beginning celebrated 30 years of existence with this compilation and sent it to us this spring. Of course it’s all good songs on this Best of-thingy from the melodic punkband. Troublemakers are one of the good guys and have showed their appreciation for Aggresso! more than once. So without getting too nostalgic and sentimental I just wanna thank the band for the last 10 years and the too few times we’ve spent together, both physically and on the airwaves, and I hope you get another strong 30 years. Cheers guys, you rock! (BM)

Featured track: Trettio (and not “Månen Lyser Klar” as announced on the show)

Trubbel – Trubbel 7″ (Alleycat)

Holy cow, what a 7″! I cant even begin to describe my appreciation for this wax-piece. AlleyCat first sent us the CD-version. When it didnt work, I e-mailed Jonk and asked for the mp3-files but I didnt get my hopes up. Luckily he sent them to me and both Maiken and me were sold. We were so blinded by enthusiasm that we didnt register the fact that it was originally released in 2009. Oh well, still one of the absolute best releases we RECEIVED in 2011. Classic Swedish rattle-punk with a dash of psychobilly-elements on the vocals I believe? Anyho, just fucking brilliant! (BM)

Featured track: Sibirien

Wild Weekend – Punch (Tornado Ride)

Italian Wild Weekend was completely different from what I’d thought, but it was really good. The band I thought was another garageoutfit turned out to be rough punkrock with lovely misspelled English. (MA)

Featured track: Waist of Time

The Wildebeests – Gnuggets (Dirty Water)

This record was really a smorgasbord of garagerockextravaganza, with fun coversongs and good times. Almost too much to take in, I still go back to this one and pull out a song here and there, it’s like a candybox! I especially liked their downbeat, harmonized version of the Clash’s classic Garageland. (MA)

Featured track: Garageland

V/A – Kind of Like a Comp (Kind of Like/download)

Following in the lovely footsteps of the “(…) It’s Like Bringing a Fork to a Gunfight” (se below), this free downloadable comp also rocks my socks off. It features some of the same bands as Fork-comp. and definitively the same genres; melodic hardcore, poppy punk and everything in between, by all-quality bands. I believe its still available so do yourself a favour and go grab it! (BM)

Featured track: Glory Bound – More Ian Mackaye, Less Ron Jeremy

V/A – ThePunkSite.com Presents: It’s Like Bringing A Fork To A Gunfight (download)

In the beginning of Aggresso! in 2001, no-one sent us anything but physical releases. After a while, bands started to send us mp3-files and ask us to download their music from wherever and whatnot. So I said “thanx but no thanx, we want the physical copy.” With a few exeptions. As times changed, so did I and I believe this lovely 35 band/song-compilation marked a point in our history when I started not giving a damn whether it was physically released/sent or not. And Im glad I did coz, aside from the fact that this compilation totally rocks it also introduced me to the lovely Mixtapes and a few other new favourites. I believe its still available so do yourself a favour and go grab it! (BM)

Featured track: Direct Hit! – Werewolf Shame

CONCERTS:

The Fleshtones & Scampi, Chips, Dip & Campari @ Landmark 09.06.11

The best concert I’ve ever been to, no question. The Fleshtones has to be the coolest band alive. They entered the venue while PLAYING THEIR INSTRUMENTS, then kicked off 90 minutes of sweaty, dancy fantastic rocknroll. People (myself) were pulled up on stage to take over the instruments while the Fleshtones ran around doing push-ups, or demanding push-ups from members of the audience. They even played my favourite track “Alright” on request! God, I love this band. If you ever get the chance to see them, you should do it. Don’t even think about it. It’ll be the best thing you ever did. (MA)

Featured track: Destination Greenpoint

Göttemia @ Hulen 04.02.11

Released a fabolous split w/Lucky Malice last year, participated on their own brilliant labels compilation “I Don’t Wanna Be A Part of Your So Called Punk” and guested Bergen for the third time together with Hans Majestet Kongens Garde this time. Another brilliant show from another band who celebrated 10 years existence this year. Hail hail! (BM)

Featured track: interview Göttemia (excerpt)

Honningbarna & Oslo Ess @ Hulen 02.04.11

A night destined for greatness when 2 of Norways hottest rock/punk-outfits were visiting Bergen together and doing two shows, one acoustic, mid-day, in-store and one ordinary late nighter. Both had just been nominated for the prestigious Urört-award, which Honningbarna won, and had just released their debutalbums after a long list of applaued concerts.

Honningbarna, both electric and acoustic, didn’t exactly disappoint but they didn’t blow me away either. The crowd, which counted many that night, saved my impression of them. Oslo Ess did however blow me away. The acoustic set was well-rehearsed and their 40mins on stage at Hulen that night semented their position as one of the countrys absolute best live bands. Some of their songs on the album, as Honningbarnas, are mediocre at best but live they get away with everything. Add charisma, stage-antics, a tight band and a well-produced sound and you’re set to go. Crazy. Honningbarna didn’t have all these factors this evening but all in all, the entire day from the acoustic performance via the very entertaining and educating interview with both bands at the same time to the electrifying concerts in front of a packed Hulen was superb! (BM)

Featured: interview Honningbarna/Oslo Ess (excerpt)

Hollywood Sinners @ Garage 18.02.11

Wooo! Man, this was almost too much fun. I’d been eagerly awaiting this gig, as I’d been obsessivly listening to their music a few weeks prior to it, and all my expectations were fulfilled. They were completly WILD, and raw, and amazing. Even though no one understood them and they didn’t understand anyone, good times were had by all. (MA)

Featured track: interview with Hollywood Sinners (excerpt)

Thee Gravemen @ Garage 14.01.11

These two English dudes has to be two of the nicest people I’ve ever met, so it was good that their band was very very good fun listening to. Two guys, one guitar, one drumset and a whole lot of amazing ghoulish effects made this concerts one of the most fun and entertaining of the year. (MA)

Featured track: interview with Thee Gravemen (excerpt)

Tragedy @ Garage 18.05.11

What is there to say? I mean, how could this night possibly fail? Even though the band disagrees, I would have to say that this was a pretty legendary hardcore-night in Bergen. Good turnout for a Wednesday, the band delivered and everyone was happy. Untill they got kicked out of the sleeping-room at the venue becoz of a misunderstanding and had to start on the drive towards Denmark. Oh well. Come back soon! (BM)

Featured track: Point of No Return

OTHER: Aggresso! history

Self-explanatory, I guess.

Featured track: Aggresso! history part 9.3, 10.1, 10.2, 11.1 and 11.2

Interview Geir Brurok, Betong Hysteria (excerpt)

As I learned towards the end of the recorded phone-conversation I had with the lead singer of the legendary Norwegian hardcore-pioneers Betong Hysteria, this was pretty exclusive. He only did one other interview and, in all modesty, mine was better. The reason for it was, of course, the release of 8 previously unreleased demo-recordings from 1982. But we touched upon many other subjects; the Blitz-squat in Oslo, the Islamic conspiracy to take over the world and the death-threats that caused BH to cancel their reunion-gig in 2008. Highly entertaining! (BM)

Interview Bendik Næsje, UFFA (excerpt)

After almost 30 years of existence, the autonomously-ran UFFA-squat in Trondheim burned down this December. Obviously, people were devastated but luckily they turned the negative into something positive and got renewed power and belief in themselves, as Næsje confirms in the interview. Myself, I hosted a benefit-gig for them, at which Blood Command were one of the attending acts. (BM)

Featured track: Blood Command – LAX (live)

Interview Stian Andreassen, Jimbo Jones (excerpt)

The fabolous Jimbo Jones finally got their 2007-recorded album available for download (anticipating a 2011-vinyl release) and while “UFO 666″ couldn’t quite match the standard set by their previous efforts, talking to their drummer sure could. (BM)

Last Aggresso! radiocafé @ Garage 16.06

I thought more people would show up. I really did. We invited what we thought was the créme de la créme of Bergen Punkrock City the last 10 years as live-guests and I honestly thought the bands we booked was decent enough for people to spend 50 kroners on. I was wrong. But we had a good time and the show/radiocafé went ok. Thanx to everyone who turned up and enjoyed it with us.

Thankyous:

Ragnhild for starting this show with me, Knut for adding so much to it and Maiken for completing it with me. Thank you!

All the producers, editors and shit-workers in the Studentradio. Still commercial- and sponsor-free after almost 30 years, thats punk!

All the distributors, labels, bands and promotors who’ve fed us with music over the years. You literary made the show what it is.

All the people we’ve interviewed and talked to over the years and the few of you who’ve actually listened and gave us feedback – thanx!

And finally; those of you who keep being active in one way or the other and staying true to your beliefs, who keep giving it back and pushing it forward; keep on keeping on!

In the final history-chapter I made an attempt to conclude with something. I don’t think I succeeded. So I tried to write some words. They are not nearly perfect or how I really would want them to be but keep in mind English is not my native language and that it was written in a frenzy where I almost stepped out of myself. I was so exhausted after writing it I just saved, closed the computer and went out for some fresh air. After two weeks I looked back upon it and thought “OK, it kinda sucks but I still think it’s the most honest thing Ive ever written” so here you go:

When I was a little boy growing up, my 4 year older brother gave me a pretty hard time both verbally and physically, partially because our alcoholic, wife-beating dad died of cancer when I was 9. Maybe because of the constant, systematic and vicious bullying I started to sympathize with the weak in school and in society in general. At least I had a pretty strong sense of right and wrong early on.

After a brief period of worshipping Metallica, Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden and dozens of other metal/hard-rock bands, I discovered punkrock around the age of 15. The Misfits, The Exploited, The Dead Kennedys – the names alone gave me the chills. I got a feeling I knew where I was headed in life and when Jello Biafra told me to quit school in the song “Life Sentence”, I did. And when he said “question everything” I got confirmation that my suspicious brain was right all along; our planet was an evil, corrupt upsidedown-world and I was one of the selected few who saw the truth.

I also drank alot of alcohol and smoked alot of hash at the time and screamed songs about suicide at mountaintops in the outskirts of the Bergen-suburb Olsvik together with my outsider comrades. Jello Biafra, nor anyone else for that matter, never offered me an alternative and I was destined to go nowhere pretty fast. Somehow I made it through school (barely) before I started working full-time at the colonial-store my mom pressured me into applying for a job at. I discovered I had social-anxiety, I was depressed and addicted to alcohol and drinking. I quit the hash-smoking after a small mental-breakdown in my room in the summer of ’99, btw.

After a while I got better and better at my job, I got promoted and I met a girl. My juvenile-probation officer was very pleased and let me off the hook. After a few months of playing in the same band, Ragnhild got pregnant and our son Emil was born. So we bought a house and moved to the suburbs. I was soon choking. I wasnt getting any better mentally and the relationship soon stranded. But we remained friends and heavily in contact, not just becoz of Emil, but becoz of this little thing we started doing almost by accident; a radioshow we called Aggresso!

Suddenly I was thrown into the Norwegian punk- and hardcore scene with a microphone, a million of questions to hundreds of bands and with the world as my stage. I developed an ego, I continued to drink – alot – and set sail for a new journey I could not possibly imagine where would take me. The radioshow opened doors that were closed for so many, and I shot the shit with people who used to be my idols, people I before only knew from pictures in magazines and album-covers. They were real. No-one acted like rock-stars. They were all pretty much down to earth and friendly. Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Misfits etc. We played with them, hung out and partied with them, gave them copies of our bands records and after a few years, I got recognition. And a reputation. I continued to drink, work my ass off and take care of my son every other week. I was still depressed and full of anxiety but of course I didnt realize it untill it was almost too late. I thought I was part of changing the world but I forgot the most important part; to start with yourself.

In 2008 I had a mental breakdown of sorts. The drinking, the too much working, the lack of sleep, the late effects of the hash-smoking I guess, the depression, the anxiety and the conflicting roles as a father, a son, a boyfriend, a social worker and punkrocker, drinker, journalist, political activist and lots more collided. I had to take some serious time off so I went on sick-leave from work and started seeing a psychologist. About freakin’ time!

Slowly but surely I was getting out of the dark, messy hole I had been digging myself deeper and deeper into the last 15 years and it felt pretty good. At first, it was scary as hell coz I knew I had to sacrifice some of the things I held dearly. But I knew I had to in order to get closer to the things I cared most about; my son and my own well-being. Luckily for me I didnt need medication. I was only “mildly depressed”. Holy cow, what about those who are worse off than I was? Who aren’t full of resources and the ability to analyze oneself? Who doesnt have family to talk to and that are there for you finacially?

I am lucky. People say Im gifted. Talented. My mother said I could do anything I sat my mind to. So I did. I took control of the situation called my fucked up life and started the process of getting better. I’m not there yet but I’m never, ever going back to that black hole. Not me, never. I’m staying alive and Im gonna give it my absolute best shot. Im bettering myself every day, both my physical and mental health. Slowly but surely Im progressing and I have to keep telling that to myself so I dont loose grip and start to fall. Its so easy you see. The last time I thought of suicide was in 2009.

The music-business has changed alot the last 10 years. Radio DJs are no longer music-experts, for better and for worse. Bands arent selling their music anymore, they have to give it away for free. That’s close to insane if you look at it from a more than 5 years back-perspective. I don’t think Aggresso! could’ve upheld it’s current position without giving in to all the constant changes. I tried to limit the music on the show to just coming from physical copies but I gave in the last year or so.

The people are the new experts, they dont need us anymore. Aggresso! was always about the best of the new music that we got mailed. Not e-mailed but mailed in the post. Old-school. We could never uphold that now. 10 years is pretty neat. Quit while you’re ahead, right? Apart from the long, non-paid working hours, the travelling and the minimal response from anyone outside the radio, the attendance on our last radiocafe being the very manifestation of that, I got lotsa free music, lotsa free concerts and lotsa contacts that I’ve used for getting tours with my musical projects done and whatnot. Strangers sometimes come up to me and talk to me like they know me. How fucked up is that? It feels great though.

Punk rock didn’t just teach me to drink and question everything. It also taught me to give it back. If punkrock is gonna be a community we have to try to take care of each other. I’m not just telling you my story to ventilate and feed my ego but also in hope that someone out there can learn something without making the same mistakes as I did. Punkrock can be a beautiful thing and I hold it close to heart every day, from early morning to late at night. Its in my blood now. The community, the comradery, the unity. But I also hate it for its obsession with drinking and the sometimes naïve politics. We’re not progressing by debating wether or not this and that band sold out its punkrock ideals by signing a major label contract. IT’S MUSIC for christ’s sake.

People are dying in wars over our limited natural resources every day. Every day thousands of animals gets slaughtered and tortured for your eating habits and your cosmetic needs. Fuck that. Every day politicians lie to our faces and smile as they take our money and we thank ‘em for it. Hell, we even vote for ‘em. Every day WE ARE ALL caught in this fucked up society that doesnt offer any real alternative to pollute, rape and pillage our earth. We’re destined for doomsday and punkrock’s NOT gonna save the day. So be the change, become the media, get off your ass and get active, stay positive and stop drinking so damn much! If not you; who? If not here; where? If not now; when?

I’m proud of all the hours I’ve put in on the show for the last 10 years. The show has become a big part of me, for better and for worse. I don’t care if you never listened coz you’ve heard about it, right? All over the world, people are contributing to create a better world. Some more than others. What are you doing? Im gonna continue to write and stay active. Im gonna better myself more and more. What are you gonna do? I mean, what are you really gonna do? I dont care if you say you’ve heard all this before coz meat still means murder and a different world IS possible. The day we say that it isn’t is the day that we’ve lost. Fuck that. I dont believe it for a second. There is good in every single person on this planet. That means hope. Hope for a better world, a different world.

I’d like to think that Aggresso! has made a small contribution to that. I know I would be somewhere totally else if it werent for that show and Ive learned so much from doing it. Ive seen the inside of the music-business and it sucks. Ive seen the inside of the punkrock-scene and its really not all its cranked up to be. But Ive also seen the insides of so many nice, warm, generous, dedicated, positive, strong-going, none-selfish humans that I cannot help but think there’s a hope for a better world, a different world. And I know you want it too. Turn of your TV-set, stop looking at stupid shit on YouTube, stop updating your Facebook-status all the time, stop texting attractive people when you’re drunk/lonely/miserable and just tell them how you feel!

“Go out and try stuff, dont be so scared of everything”. Start living. Ride a bike instead of a car. Talk to a stranger on the bus. Say something nice to someone. To everyone. Read a book, watch a documentary, dig in and educate yourself. Dont trust Hollywood or Rupert Murdoch to do it for you. Stay positive, stay healthy and stay alive. Dont judge, mistreat and suspect people of the worst. Be including and stay open as you question everything. There is no authority but yourself. You control the action. Connect the dots. Be the change. Peace out.

Men først altså; den siste ordinære Aggresso!-sendingen med ny musikk fra Death is Not Glamorous, Captain, We’re Sinking, Born Without Bones, konsertoversikt for hele landet (inkl.
4 .THE CYNICS – WHAT SHE SAID (Get Hip)
the American garage-rock legends threatened to sue the British Cynics unless they changed their name. So they did. To Great Cynics.

5. DEATH IS NOT GLAMOROUS – INVINCIBLE SUMMER (Cobra/Fysisk Format/bandcamp)
from their upcoming “Spring Forward” recorded off their bandcamp-site.
6. BORN WITHOUT BONES – CONSIDER THIS. (Animal Style/download)

-. AGGRESSO HISTORY part 9.1

10. LAME DUCKS – PICK IT UP (Fucking North Pole)
the first song we ever played on Aggresso! way back in August 2001. And the “last”

[-. AGGRESSO HISTORY part 9.2]
exclusively available on the web-rerun only. Fall/winter 2009 was so packed with good stuff I have to make a part 9.3 as well. This one featured an interview with Social Suicide amongst others.

Re-run available at http://srib.no/musikk/aggresso-musikk/siste-sending/ and www.myspace.com/aggressoradio

… but we ain’t dead just yet. First and foremost it’s the annual summer-reruns; 3 shows where we summarize the best records and concerts from the last 6 months, one show each Wednesday all summer; before Maiken, Kaspar, Rolf (from the program Fuzz) and new guy Marius (from the band Roadkill) takes the relay-baton and starts a new show this fall. What it will contain and what the musical-focus will be I dont know but I guess Maiken will enlighten us at the last radiocafé we’ll host at Garage Thursday June 16th. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!

Born Without Bones, The Kits, Let Live, Radio Saigon og Red City Radio. Hva mener du ukjente navn? Det er bare fordi du ikke har begynt å like de enda.

Hør de i dagens sending kl.13:00, evt. på fredag natt til lørdag kl. 00:00
Eller på vår Myspace eller her:

The second-last ordinary Aggresso!-shows playlist looks a little like this:

AGGRESSO! # 19 – 26.05.11

1. RED CITY RADIO – CAPTIONED FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED (Paper and Plastic/download)
from “The Dangers of Standing Still” but also from the downloadable tourcomp. w/Mixtapes and Captain, We’re Sinking

2. BORN WITHOUT BONES – SAY HELLO (Animal Style/download)
titletrack from Scott Ayottes one-man project with help from his friends in Pennsylvania and Massachussets. Released Nov last year, made available for free download now

3. LET LIVE. – PROLOGUE (Epitaph/Tuba)
4. LET LIVE. – THE SICK, SICK 6.8 BILLION (Epitaph/Tuba)
from their third album “Fake History”, originally released on Tragic Hero April last year, re-released now.

5. BAD RELIGION – AMERICAN JESUS (LIVE)
Greg Graffin is being honoured with a newly discovered fossilized bird named after him, the Qiliania graffini. According to Maiken, thats hot.

6. PIERCED ARROWS – CAROLINE (Toombstone)
playing Norway next week, Bergen on Wednesday

7. THE KITS – WILD AT HEART (Pop Crime/Dirty Water)
“Lead us in to Temptation” is NOT released by Dirty Water like I gave the impression of last week, they’re just helping out Pop Crime.

-. AGGRESSO HISTORY part 8.1
2008; co-host Robbie was gone, I found love x2 in Oslo and I talked to Billy Childish and Sham 69

8. STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO – SOMEWHERE IN THE BETWEEN (Victory/Tuba)
one of the best records/shows/memories from 2008

9. NORSK RÅKK – SOMMERENS HARMONI (self rel)
playing Horten Saturday

10. TROUBLEMAKERS – STADEN GØTEBORG (Hepcat)

11. RADIO SAIGON – ANOTHER TIME (Bad Afro/VME)

[-. AGGRESSO HISTORY part 8.2]
Bjarte goes to Bitzburg, or on a US-tour to be more precise, and gets dumped upon returning. Flogging Molly talks about the hope the new-elected president. This is only available on the web-rerun.

[12. SILVER - ANY ROAD (Bad Afro/VME)]
from “Wolf Chasing Wolf”, an amazing record from 2008 and a quite describing song

So next weeks show will be our final and last ordinary. In case you havent noticed, Im quitting the radio. Maiken, Kaspar and some others have joined forces and will start a new program, more on that next week. Also, more on the very last Aggresso! radiocafe with guests and bands in the heart of Bergen. Information TBA.
Go enjoy the rerun allready; www.myspace.com/aggressoradio and http://srib.no/musikk/aggresso-musikk/kokepunktet-naermer-seg/
Cheers!

Svenske Troublemakers er ute med best of-plate og i dag fikk du nok et drypp fra “30″ samt Dirty Water Records’ siste band ut; The Kits med “Lead Us In To Temptation”, Thursday med “Devolución”, Halden-baserte Vaya Con Satans selvtitulerte debut-syvtommer og Mixtapes “Hope is For People”.
Hey, guess what!? Only two (or is that three?) more shows before we’re calling it quits. This week, both Maiken and me were pretty hungover from the day before; Norways national day and free 4-band concert. But we still kick ass even when we’re almost not sober and you’d be a fool to miss out on the rerun of this weeks show. Here’s the playlist:

AGGRESSO! # 18 – 18.05.11

1. BACKLASH – LET YOUR SPIRIT FLY (mp3)
a rawmix from their upcoming 7″. Possibly playing Norway and Bergen his fall.

2. MIXTAPES – THE NEW RIDE THE LIGHTNING (Paper and Plastic/download)
more from the brilliant “Hope is For People” 7″

3. TROUBLEMAKERS – UTAN HJÄRTA STANNAR SVERIGE (Heptown)

-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY PART 7.2
fall 2007 starts with me being alone on the air, getting a new co-host and Norwegian punk being remembered and documented in various forms and settings

4. EL-REGN – NABOEN ER NYNAZIST (Svindel)
from one of the abovementioned forms; “Hurra For Norge – Norsk Pønkråkk 1978-1986 Vol.1″

5. HINDENBÜRG ROCK N GRILL – PUDDEFJORDEN (LIVE)
playing Kvarteret tonight and a houseshow Saturday. This is a liverecording from Hål in the Sko 2010

6. TRAGEDY – NO END IN SIGHT (Armageddon)
played Garage yesterday. Very good.

7. BLOOD COMMAND – SUMMON THE ARSONIST (Fysisk Format)
one of three support-acts yesterday and the only one reporter Kaspar and me caught as we were busy talking to Tragedy for almost an hour. Needless to say, the interview was pretty damn good. Too bad I didnt manage to actually record it then.

8. VAYA CON SATAN – TEMPTATION (Tonehjulet Kräftpest)

9. THE KITS – COUNT ON ME (Dirty Water)
new album from the British cred-label; “Lead Us In To Temptation”. Maiken kinda liked. Main-feature in the Surf’s Up-column

10. BABY WOODROSE – ALL OVER NOW (Bad Afro/VME)
an oldie but goodie from a new label-promo that Maiken really liked. Second feature in Surf’s Up.

-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY PART 7.3
featuring Dick Lucas from Subhumans, Kalle & Micke from Skitsystem and a story about yours truly performing almost naked.

11. KJØTT – ET NYTT OG BEDRE LIV (Svindel)
more from “Hurra For Norge – Norsk Pønkråkk 1978-1986 Vol.1″, summarizing my first 6 months of 2008 pretty good.

12. THURSDAY – FAST TO THE END (Epitaph/Tuba)
about the only half-decent song from their new “Devolución”

The re-run is up at http://srib.no/musikk/aggresso-musikk/skitsystem-tragedy-subhumans-troublemakers/ and www.myspace.com/aggressoradio

Studentradioen i dag kl.13-14
Reprise fredag natt til lørdag kl.00-01 eller på vår MySpace eller her:

It is spring, summers near and the semester’s over soon. Which means our 20th semester and 10th year is coming to an end and Im closing the Aggresso!-chapter in my book. For those not in-the-know our last ordinary show will be Wed June 1st followed by weekly reruns where we summarize the last 6 months in records, shows and whatnot which will last untill fall when, hopefully, we will be followed by a NEW punkrock-radioshow. Still working out that.

But Aggresso! wont just leave the premises without going out with a bang, no-sir-e. We’re planning an all-nighter at a very renowned rock-pub here in Bergen with radiocafé with guests and whatnot + some bands playing live to top it all of. Looks like mid-July. So dont leave town yet if you’re not from here. And if you’re coming back to your city, be sure to follow us on Facebook for the updates on that and everything else punkradio-related. Ok, enough on this, here’s this weeks playlist with the re-run info below:

AGGRESSO! # 17 – 11.05.11

1. THE ROUTES – SINCHANS NUMBER (Dirty Water)

2. TROUBLEMAKERS – TRETTIO (Heptown)
the single, “titletrack” and only brand new song from their 30 year anniversary-album “30″. More Troublemakersclassics the following weeks!

3. WHITE WIRES – BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL (‘TIL YOU GET KICKED OUT) (Ghettoblaster Magazine/download)
finally, after 3 week of promising, the only punkrock-track off the mag’s “Mixtape: Volume 27″ downloadable from their site.

4. CRASS – BIG A LITTLE A (Crass)
from the “Nagasaki Nightmare / Big A Little A” 7″ from 1980. The new Profane Existence magazine features a lenghty interview with Steve Ignorant whos just finished the US leg of the The Last Supper tour where he’s doing selected Crass-songs. New Zeeland/Australia is next before the finale at Shepherd’s Bush in London in November and guess who’s got a ticket?

-. interview Billie McBarbie, SUGAR LOUISE del 2
this time, “Mike’n” talked to the Trondheimer’s about their decision to play pop-punk and their future plans.

5. SUGAR LOUISE – WASTIN’ SUMMERTIME (Naked Hollywood)

6. DE HØJE HÆLE – RØVGITAR (Hjernespind)
playing @ Mojo Workout @ Garage Friday w/The Branded (Swe) and @ Revolver, Oslo Sat. The Branded are also playing the boat on Sat but that’s a secret so dont tell anyone. Of course, I cant go to neither of the shows as Im working nightshifts but hopefully Maiken & Kaspar will attend one each and give you reports next week, mkey?

7. VAYA CON SATAN – RECALL (Tonehjulet Kräftpest)
from the Halden-trios selftitled debut 7″. More brilliance from this weird and beautiful gang that sails under the Tonehjulet Kräftpest-banner.

8. TRAGEDY – POINT OF NO RETURN (Armageddon/MySpace)
playing Trondheim, Oslo and Bergen next week. Song from their split 7″ w/Totalitär, recorded from MySpace.

-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY part 6.3
the last part from 2006. Co-host Knut decides to leave, Al Barr from Dropkick Murphy’s gets me an award and my German lovestory from last week crash-lands.

9. DARK TIMES – WORLDS AWAY (Ormeyngel/download)
I fucked up the label-info last time. This downloadable cassette is released on Ormeyngel.

(-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY part 7.1)
2007, first 6 months: Knut’s last semester, Ungdomshuset gets evicted and demolished and my personal problems started to have an impact on the show. More on that next week. This history-part is only available on our web-reruns; at www.myspace.com/aggressoradio and http://srib.no/musikk/aggresso-musikk/tilbakeblikk/. Ordinary re-run Friday night at midnight.

Next week we have some new releases from Epitaph and Bad Afro for ya, more from Troublemakers and hopefully an interview with Tragedy as they are playing Garage the same night as the show. Nevertheless we’ll give you a decent warm-up towhat is bound to be a historical evening. Untill then; cheerioh!

Studentradioen kl.13-14
Reprise fredag natt til lørdag kl.00-01 eller på vår MySpace

Ukens playliste, som vanlig på english:

Show #16 this year, May the 4th be with you. We had lotsa fun in the studio this week, here’s the playlist, a little late becoz of work and show-organising:

AGGRESSO! # 16 – 04.05.11

1. SUGAR LOUISE – HENRY VIII (Naked Hollywood)
in honor of Prince William and Kate’s wedding. And the death of Oba, eh, Usama bin Laden.

2. THE ROUTES – ALLIGATOR (Dirty Water)

3. THE KENDOLLS – RE-PULSE (Alleycat)

4. IGGY & THE STOOGES – RAW POWER (LIVE)
a download-teaser from the upcoming “Raw Power Live: In the Hands of the Fans” which is Iggy & The Stooges performing their classic 3rd album in its entirety live last year

-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY part 6.1
2006, the year old co-host Knut & I peaked. But the fame and glamour soon broke up our friendship and as Knut went to rehab, I took over all the rights for the show and earned a lot of money. This is all bullshit obviously, except for the fact that we peaked (I think).

5. xTRUE NATUREx – BE THE CHANGE (MySpace)
playing 2 houseshows in Bergen. Americans and Europeans on tour.

6. GREEN ROOM ROCKERS – BASEMENT SONG (Community/download)
a lovely little song from “Ska is Dead – Young Guns Tour Sampler” about the importance of supporting the scene by going to local shows. Humtidumtidum.

-. interview Billie McBarbie, SUGAR LOUISE del 1
the Trondheim bubblegum-rockers played 24 shows in 24 hours last weekend as their releaseparty. Maiken gave them a call to get the details.

7. SVARTSYN – ET SPØRSMÅL (self rel)

8. DARK TIMES – TALK TOO MUCH (Dark Times/download)
from their downloadable cassette on bandcamp.com

9. TROUBLEMAKERS – VILD O VACKER (Heptown)
celebrating 30 years with the compilation “30″. Expect more from this in the weeks to come.

(-. AGGRESSO! HISTORY part 6.2)
more on the abovementioned + a lovestory and hinting on things to come. But this is only available on our web re-run, NOT on the live-version. We decided to do it that way for two reasons; 1) time. The historical reports take to much of our show-time 2) more people will hopefully check out our websites.

and next week I’ll have part 6.3 or 7.1, or both, for ya as well as part 2 of the Sugar Louise-interview and some very fine, new discs.

The re-run is up at http://srib.no/musikk/aggresso-musikk/24-konserter-pa-24-timer/ and www.shitspace.com/aggressoradio

‘Till next week: ta-ta!

Like Rats From A Sinking Ship forteller mer om den orginale bassen sin denne uken

Studentradioen i dag kl.13:00-14:00
Reprise fredag natt til lørdag 00:00-01:00 eller på vår MySpace

from their 50% amazing, 50% unoriginal debut “Jerking Class Era”. Extra punk-points for correct punctuation in the song-title.

3. THE VANDALS – HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (Nitro)
from their 1995 “Live Fast Diarrhea”. Went out to Kaspar who had birthday today!

7. SUGAR LOUISE – BE MY DEMI MOORE (Naked Hollywood)
